Radius Grinding Attachments are for grinding ball, corner radius and concave radius on end mills and other shank-type cutters, as well as for grinding radius on arbor-type cutters. Unit 6: Radial cutter grinding fixture 6-B: Ball bearing work head for shank-type cutters 6-A: Ball bearing work head for arbor-type cutters.
Unit No. 6 is a precision tilting compound slide for setting end mills and cutters to correct position when grinding radii on cutters and end mills. It is especially designed for Work Head No. 6-A and Work Head No. 6-B. Unit No. 6 is built to close standards of accuracy and workmanship and will produce a fine finish to a close tolerance over a long period of years. All sliding surfaces such as saddle ways and table ways are hand scraped for accuracy and sensitive movement. Unit No. 6 may be used on most makes of tool grinders. The work table is accurately ground all over for ease of set-up. The base has a graduated scale of 30 degrees - 15 degrees from each side of 0 line so the table can be tilted two ways. The two feed screws have dials graduated to one thousandths of an inch. Dovetail ways have adjustable gibs to take up for wear on cross slide and work table. The entire holding unit is mounted on ball bearings and the swivel base is graduated 360 degrees. Features:
The cutter spindle of Work Head No. 6-A is mounted with precision pre-loaded ball bearings and is dust proof for sensitive movement of the spindle. The spindle assembly on Work Head No. 6-A is interchangeable for different size spindles if needed. The Unit No. 6 and Work Head No. 6-A will sharpen radii on plain milling cutters, side milling cutters, shell end mills, metal slitting saws, single or double angular cutters, half side helical milling cutters, and many other special forms. Work Head No. 6-B with standard equipment is especially designed to fit Unit No. 6. The spindle is heat treated and ground to close tolerance and has a 5-C collet bore. Accurately mounted on pre-loaded ball bearings, sealed and lifetime lubricated, it needs no attention. The index lock bracket is easily removed when the universal tooth rest is mounted on the Work Head. Standard index has 24 divisions. Other discs to 48 divisions are available at extra cost. Work Head No. 6-B is Meehanite casting construction. Its spindle is so accurately mounted that it rotates at a finger's touch.
